La Banda Musicale G. Puccini nasce presumibilmente nel 1880, data riportata in alcune testimonianze orali. Il complesso, tuttavia, si costituisce ufficialmente il 1° giugno 1925, e a causa dei due conflitti mondiali interruppe la sua attività per poi riprenderla nel 1965. La Banda è attualmente composta da circa 40 elementi, è presieduta da Renato Congia e diretta dal Maestro Paolo Argiolas.
La banda G. Puccini non ha un suo luogo specifico. Le sue marce di festa, i suoi brani da concerto, i suoi squilli di tromba, i suoi tamburi e i suoi trilli risuonano nella storia di ogni angolo del nostro paese. Non esiste piazza o via in cui almeno una volta la banda non abbia suonato qualcosa nei suoi lunghissimi e gloriosi anni di storia. Sono molti i gonnesi che ricordano la melodia di Tiziana, una delle marce più suonate. Tiziana è il suono della festa, e la banda è riuscita a suonarla pure in pieno lookdown, ad aprile 2020, quando non si poteva uscire e l’unica regola era il distanziamento sociale.
La banda anima le principali ricorrenze religiose del paese, come Pasqua, durante “S’Incontru”, o la festa di Santa Severa, o ancora prende parte alla lunghissima processione della Madonna della Salute, a maggio, insieme ai costumi del folklore sardo, ai e ai trattori decorati a festa, e a quella della Madonna di Lourdes, a settembre, in un corteo di ceri luminosi. Non può mancare alle cerimonie civili, inaugurazioni, ricorrenze, commemorazioni, sagre e feste comunitarie.
Tutto ciò che la Banda esegue, a Gonnosfanadiga come nel resto del mondo, è frutto di tanto studio, preparazione, esercizio, in una parola: le prove. La vita del bandista è fatta di tante prove, le quali rappresentano la vita della Banda a porte chiuse, a cui nessuno, oltre i musicisti e il maestro, può accedere.
A volte non è semplice trovare la voglia di uscire in pieno inverno per andare a suonare in una stanza gelida, dopo una lunga giornata di lavoro o di studio. Ancora meno nei pomeriggi di piena estate quando il termometro sfiora i 40 gradi. Spesso alcuni non capiscono, e ai bandisti chiedono: ma chi ve lo fa fare? Beh, la risposta è che le prove sono una palestra per la mente. Molti vanno in palestra per staccare da tutto, dal lavoro, dalle preoccupazioni, dalla routine quotidiana. Ecco, è esattamente questo l’effetto delle prove di banda: l’attenzione si volge solo sulla musica, sullo spartito, su quel passo difficile, e non c’è tempo, non c’è spazio per le altre cose al di fuori della sala prove. Dopo ogni concerto (e spesso dopo le stesse prove) i bandisti festeggiano tutti insieme: giovani, adulti e anziani condividono una pizza, un dolcetto e un’Ichnusa.
In definitiva, far parte della Banda comporta tanto studio, ma anche tanto divertimento, con la consapevolezza che l’elemento fondamentale è il saper suonare insieme e fare gruppo. Ed è proprio in questo periodo di pandemia e di pausa forzata che abbiamo compreso a fondo che la musica è la medicina per l’anima.

The band according to the bandsmen
The Banda Musicale G. Puccini was probably born in 1880, we say that because the testimony presented this date. The complex, however, is officially constituted on June 1st, 1925, because of the two-world war, which stopped the music activities, then resumed in 1965. Banda Musicale is now composed of 40 elements, it is chaired by Renato Congia and directed by the teacher Paolo Argiolas.
The Banda G. Puccini did not have a specific place. Its festive marches, its concert pieces, its trumpets, its drums, and its trills resonate in the history in every corner of our country. There is no square or street where the band has not played something in its long and glorious history. There are many gonnesi (Gonnosfanadiga’s inhabitants) that remember the melody of Tiziana, one of the most played. Tiziana is the sound of the fest, the band managed to play it even in full lookdown, in April 2020, when everybody could not go out and the only rule was social distancing.
The Band animates the most important Church’s festivity, for example Easter, during “S’Icontru”, Santa Severa’s celebration, or also takes part in Our Lady of Health’s procession, in May, with Sardinian folklore costumes, and tractors decorated with festivities. In September, during the procession dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, where we use candles. We cannot miss civil ceremonies, inaugurations, anniversaries, commemorations, festivals, and community holidays.
Everything concern the band performs, in Gonnosfanadiga as in the rest of the world, is the result of many hours of study, preparation, exercise, in a word: the tests. The life of the band members is made up of many tests, which represent the life of the band behind closed doors, no one than musicians and the teacher can access.
Sometimes is not that easy find the energy to go to the tests in a cold place, after a busy day, even less in summer afternoons, where the temperature is almost 40 degrees. Someone often cannot understand and ask to band members: “why do you do it?”, the answer is easy, test is the gym in our mind. Many people go to the gym to disconnect from everything, works, worries, daily routine. This is the same reason why we make part of Banda Musicale, our focus is on the music, the score, that difficult step. There is no time, no place for other things outside the rehearsal room. After each concert (and often after the same rehearsals) the band members celebrate together: young people, adults and elderly share a slice of pizza, a cake and an Ichnusa. Make part of the Banda involves many hours of study, also a lot of fun, with the awareness that the fundamental element is knowing how to play together and make a group. And it is precisely in this period of pandemic and forced pause that we have fully understood that music is medicine for the soul.
